Marcos Gago is an artist, printmaker and art director. He grew up in New York and received a BFA from the School of Visual Arts. He has studied printmaking at Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop and Manhattan Graphics Center and splits his time between New York City and Solebury, PA, where his studio is based.
Gago has built his career as an art director and graphic designer, working at reputable companies including; Condè Nast, Hearst and Warner Brothers Records. He has been an art director at American Vogue, Seventeen, Mirabella and Town & Country magazines, amongst others.
His background as a graphic designer informs his attention to detail and composition. Yet, it is training in fine art and his enduring fascination with the natural world that drives his creative process today.
His fine art work is an exploration of the familiar and the intangible. Through a variety of printing mediums as well as painting, he seeks to capture the essence of his surroundings, both imaginary and physical. Revisiting memories of a place and exploring his relationship to that place, he strives to offer a moment of clarity and connection, encouraging a deeper understanding of ourselves and our place within the world.
